Die Handlung von "Der leere Thron" schließt zeitlich fast direkt an das Ende des Vorgängerromans - "Der Heidenfürst" - an. Uhtred, der auch nicht mehr ganz junge Held der Geschichte, leidet noch schwer an den bei der Schlacht von Tettenhall (5. August 910) erlittenen Verwundungen. Ihm bleibt aber kaum Zeit sich zu erholen, denn sein mit ihm verfeindeter Cousin Æthelred - der ungekrönte Herr des zur Hälfte von Wikingern besetzten Rest-Königreichs Mercien - ist gestorben und hat ein Machtvakuum hinterlassen. Ausgerechnet Uhtred fällt nun eine Schlüsselposition im sich anbahnenden Kampf um die Nachfolge zu, da er nicht nur der erfolgreichste Heerführer der Angelsachsen ist, sonder auch seit etlichen Jahren das Bett mit Æthelreds Witwe teilt. Diese möchte gerne selbst Herrscherin Merciens werden, um ihr Ziel, die heidnischen Invasoren wieder in ihre Heimatländer zurückzubugsieren, endlich verwirklichen zu können. Hieran sieht man übrigens, dass die Angelsachsen den Begriff "Willkommenskultur" noch nicht kannten ;)Wie man es vom Routinier Bernard Cornwell gewohnt ist, weist auch der neueste Roman dieser Reihe so gut wie keine Längen auf, sondern bleibt vielmehr von der ersten bis zur letzten Zeile spannend und unterhaltsam. Uhtred darf natürlich wieder einen Priester vermöbeln, während er das Abmurksen eines weiteren Gottesmannes seinem wohlgeraten Nachwuchs überlässt. Bei Cornwells Biografie - er wuchs angeblich bei christlichen Fundamentalisten auf - liegt der Verdacht nahe, dass er mit diesen regelmäßig wiederkehrenden Schilderungen seine ganz persönlichen Fantasien in literarischer Form auslebt...Obwohl auch "Der leere Thron" wieder voller Gemetzel ist, so ziehen sich diese im Einzelnen nicht dermaßen in die Länge, wie es bei einigen der Vorgängerbücher der Fall war; wofür ich durchaus dankbar bin, denn schlussendlich wiederholt sich bei Cornwells Schlachtenbeschreibungen mittlerweile so einiges.Humor und Wortwahl sind auch diesmal wieder grob und wunderbar ordinär. Als beispielsweise Uhtred die Vorratskammern eines abwesenden Bischofs leerräumt, meint er:- "Ich war darauf vorbereitet gewesen, mit Silber für das zu bezahlen, was wir brauchen. Nun aber beschloss ich, dass wir uns die Vorräte einfach nehmen würden, und der Bischof konnte von mir aus gegen den Wind pissen."Auch sehr blumig ist seine Wortwahl, als ihm bei einem Gelage ein Wein aus Flandern kredenzt wird:- "... und wenn dies flandrischer Wein war, hätte ich lieber Pferdepisse getrunken..." :)Für einen perfekten historischen Roman müsste sich der Autor bei der Rahmenhandlung genauer an die wissenschaftlichen Fakten halten, anstatt sich die Dinge gelegentlich recht großzügig zurechtzubiegen. Beispielsweise gibt Cornwell das Alter des späteren englischen König Æthelstan mit ca. 10 Jahren an, obwohl dieser zum Zeitpunkt der Romanhandlung (910/911) längst kein unmündiger Rotzlöffel mehr war, sondern ein 16- oder 17-jähriger, wehrfähiger junger Mann, der bereits im berühmt-berüchtigten Schildwall kämpfen durfte.Doch ich will bei der Bewertung des Buchs solche Abweichungen nicht überproportional stark betonen.FAZIT: Der Leere Thron ist flüssig geschriebene, spannende Unterhaltungsliteratur. Verglichen mit dem letzten Buch, das inhaltlich bereits einige Durchhänger aufwies, wurde hier dem Leser wieder eine spürbar stimmigere Handlung präsentiert. Trotzdem muss man zum wiederholten Male die Frage stellen, wann Uhtred die Bebbanburg - den im ersten Roman verloren Familiensitz - endlich zurückerobern wird? Ich habe offen gestanden den Eindruck, dass Uhtred (bzw. Cornwell) den perfekten Zeitpunkt dafür bereits verpasst hat....Anmerkung 1: Offensichtlich wurde die Cover-Gestaltung verändert und das bisher immer so schön minimalistische bzw. dezenten Design verworfen. Außerdem wirbt man am unteren Rand mit dem Satz: "Wie Game of Thrones, nur echt."Dass der Rowohlt-Verlag hier einen auf billigen Trittbrettfahrer macht, finde ich bestenfalls "echt" lächerlich. Cornwells Bücher sind ohnehin Bestseller und haben das nicht nötig.Anmerkung 2:In englischer Sprache erscheint ca im Jänner 2016 bereits der nächste Teil der Angelsachsen-Reihe. Der Titel lautet: "Warriors of the storm".Wohl ca. ein Jahr oder etwas weniger wird es dauern, bis das Buch auf Deutsch erhältlich ist.

Kurzweiliges Urlaubslesevergnügen, war in 3 Tagen durch, also ist das Buch durchaus als spannend zu bezeichnen.Nun ist Uthred also auch in die Jahre gekommen.In einer Zeit in der nur sehr wenige das Alter von 40 Jahren erreichten, erholt er sich von einer tödlichen Verletzung undfindet am Ende fast wieder zu seiner alten Kampfstärke zurück.Alles in allem ein wieder faszinierender historischer Roman von Herrn Cornwell.Keinesfalls möchte ich ihm sein historisches Fachwissen abstreiten, aber er bezieht sich in einem Vergleich bei dem es um die Tiere auf der Arche Noah geht auf Stinktiere??Also das musste ich dann doch googeln, Stinktiere hat es in Europa und England zu der Zeit nicht gegeben.Evtl. ein Übersetzungsfehler?Egal, Buch ist auf jeden Fall flüssig und spannend geschrieben.Man ( also zumindest ich) wartet mit Spannung auf den nächsten Teil, da es dem Autor gut gelungen ist die beidenKinder von Uthred in die Handlung zu integrieren. Da ist noch einiges zu erwarten, etwa auch über das Ende Uthreds hinaus?Wer weis, ich würde das gut finden da die Geschichte Englalands noch einiges zu bieten hat.Kaufempfehlung ?Auf jeden Fall, vielleicht mit der Einschränkung das Neueinsteiger zuerst die vorherigen Bände der Reihe lesen sollten.

Cornwell gehört zu meinen Lieblingsautoren und ich verfolge insbesondere die Erzählung um den Kriegsherrn Uhtred seit dem ersten Band mit Interesse und Spannung. Cornwell versteht es belegte Geschichte lebendig werden zu lassen, so wie es den alten Skalden nachgesagt wird. Seine Figuren leben und leiden, sie hassen und lieben, haben Humor oder sind grausam, ganz wie Menschen waren und auch noch sind.Dies ist nun der 8te Band der Saga, Uhtred wird langsam alt und Cornwell passieren einige Ungereimtheiten im Fluss der Geschichte.Die im Text erwähnten Stinktiere sind in Amerika beheimatet und waren damals in Europa unbekannt – wobei ich nicht weiß wie der englische Text an diesen Stellen lautet.Die Schwere der Verletzung von Uhtred und ihre wundersame Heilung passen eher in einen Fantasy Roman, da übertreibt Cornwell meines ErachtensDie Berufung Æthelflæd (auch Ethelfleda) zur Herrscherin ist bei aller taktischen Raffinesse mit der Uhtred sie in Szene setzt etwas dünn. Es ist belegt, dass sie eine herausragende Persönlichkeit war und nach dem Tod ihres Mannes die Geschicke von Mercia mehrere Jahre gelenkt hat, nur wie es in einer patriarchalischen Kultur dazu gekommen ist, liegt im Dunkeln. Cornwells Darstellung konnte mich dort nicht überzeugen.Ansonsten ist es wieder ein von vorne bis hinten lebendig gewordenes Stück Geschichte dessen (große) Lücken mit der gekonnten Phantasie des Autors ausgeschmückt wurde. In diesem Zusammenhang weiß ich immer das Nachwort des Autors zu schätzen, in dem er auf überlieferte Fakten und seine kunstvollen Ergänzungen hinweist.Ein Problem dieser Zeit sind die vielen ähnlich klingenden Personennamen und schwierig zu lesenden Ortsnamen, denen der Cornwell wie gewohnt ein erklärendes Vorwort widmet. Dennoch können einen die Namen manchmal verwirren.Insgesamt ein gewohnt guter Roman über diese spannende Zeit, nur im Vergleich zu den anderen Büchern der Reihe etwas schwächer.

Ich habe den Kalender vor einem Jahr meiner junggebliebenen Mutter geschenkt und sie ist jetzt damit fertig. Sie hat mir immer wieder gesagt, wieviel Spaß sie dadurch am Ausmalen gefunden hätte. Und sie ist 84 Jahre alt.Die Motive sind ok, nicht zu filigran und somit auch für nicht mehr ganz junge Augen geeignet.

Bhikkhu Analayo is a faculty member at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies and a professor at the Numata Center for Buddhist Studies at the University of Hamburg. His main area of academic research is early Buddhism, with a special interest in the topics of meditation and women in Buddhism. At the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies he regularly teaches residential study and practice courses, participates in online programs and undertakes research into meditation-related themes. He completed a PhD on the Satipatthana-sutta at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2000, published in 2003, by Windhorse Publications under the title Satipatthana: The Direct Path to Realization.

Warum alle diese doch recht einfachen Gedankengang des "Why" so abfeiern, erschließ sich mir nicht. Der Gedankengang, dass Marken sich über andere Faktoren außer dem Preis und vermeintlicher Benefits abgrenzen müssen, ist allgemein klar und wird im Buch etwas zu ausführlich (eigentlich durchgehend) erklärt. Und ein "Why" kann dabei helfen. Seine Thesen stützt er – wie so viele andere Markentheoretiker – im wesentlichen auf den Erfolg von Apple. Wie viele Bücher schon den Erfolg von Apple analysiert haben und ihre eigene These dazu nützen, ist mittlerweile unüberschaubar. Aber nur weil Apple den Kunden ein "Why" bietet, sind sie nicht erfolgreich, das ist zu kurz gedacht und das sollte absolut jedem bekannt sein. Dann könnte ja jeder den einfach Erfolg kopieren.Ärgerlich ist, dass der Inhalt des Buches auf 20 Seiten gepasst hätte und dass es keinerlei Anleitung gibt, wie der Leser, denn für sich selbst das Why/How/What definieren kann. Dafür muss man wohl einen überteuerten Workshop von Sinek buchen. Fazit: 20% interessante Gedanken, 80% aufgeblasene Zeitverschwendung.

To me it seems like the message could have been conveyed within 50 pages. Second, although the topic was not so prominent the time Simon was writing this book, he still sticks to hierarchies, but modern teal-evolutionary organizations function without hierarchy.But the message is too important to not be spread around the world!Why? How? What?Differentiate Yourself

I have watched a lot of Simon's videos on YouTube, and I love them all.Finally, I bought his book, Start with WHY.I you know Simon, you know what you get.If you don't know Simon,this book is a must have in any library, if you are interested in yourself and the people around you.The purpose, the WHY is so important, but it is often not in the focus of people or companies.This book is valuable for personal purpose but also an employee.Must have. Get it. And also watch Simon's videos, they are great and inspiring.

Generally I liked the book.Part 5 "The biggest challenge is success" was the most interesting for me as it me reflect on why I often loose interest in things (job, hobby, ...) after a few years. When focusing on why you wanna do something (for a particular feeling or state of mind) the way how you do it becomes less important.Nonetheless on many passages of the book I found myself flipping forward through the pages as it seemed to me the author is repeating the same point multiple times with multiple examples. Those parts I found a little boring...

Der Inhalt des Buches haette auf weniger als 50 Seiten gepasst. Der Rest sind Wiederholungen, drumherum-Gerede, etc. Der Gedanke des Why hat natuerlich etwas. Ob es der ausschlaggebende Grund fuer Kundenbegeisterung und Kundenbindung ist, weiss ich auch nach der Lektuere des Buches nicht. Ich habe das Buch mit dem Hintergrund einer geplanten Existenzgruendung gelesen. Der Inhalt regt schon zum Denken an. Trotzdem nur 3 Sterne.

He is repeatedly saying the same stuff. I mean this book could have had half of the pages it has now. It is useful and very well written, but too repetitive. On the other hand some examples he gave are very good, the concept he's explaining is good, but just a little boring. 3 stars because there is some useful stuff.

5 Stars because it is not perfect, it hast its flaws, but it hits the right spot I believe and was always wonderin about. I've been hooked by this concept since I've watched his TED clip which is a good start but cannot replace a 200 page book. More people should read this book and I'll help to spread the idea here in south germany,also known as bavaria.Start with WHY!

Der Ansatz "Start with Why" ist super. Ich ziehe 3 Sterne ab, weil man den Inhalt auf 15 Seiten hätte kürzen können. Der Autor wiederholt sich, einige Beispiele sind interessant aber sehr oberflächlich. Schade, hatte mehr erwartet.
